~Identify Your Target Market~

Before you can sell anything, you must determine who it is that you are selling to. Who are your best prospects for your service or product, where are they, and how do you get your message to them?

Let's say you are selling information....a printed course on how to win the man of your dreams. Who would be interested in a course that teaches how to get a man. Single women, naturally....but not all single women. Perhaps women in their late teens and early twenties aren't all that interested in finding the man of their dreams at this point in their lives. Younger women, such as the ones in the 14-16 might be interested...afterall...they are just starting out on the bumpy road to love. The women in the 30-40 year range might also be targets...they are ready to settle down. Now, you have identified your market.

The next issue would be to determine where they are. High Schools-but they probably wouldn't want you to post an ad on the bulletin board in the gym. So, other than High Schools, where are these younger teenagers that we are trying to reach? Young girls....they read all the teen magazines...the ones that tell them who they are supposed to be and how they are supposed to think, because it hasn't yet occurred to them to just be themselves, and think their own thoughts. But they read the magazines anyway....and this is where you reach them. Place ads for your course in all the most popular teen magazines....perhaps even write an excerpt from your course and submit it to the magazines for publishing.

The same goes for the women in the 30-40 age bracket...they also read the magazines, just different publications.

This method works for all types of services and products. Just answer the three questions to help you identify your market:
